A BUSINESS action group which aims to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Warrington town centre has won national recognition.
“Warrington Against Business Crime”, a partnership between retailers and police, has won a ‘Safer Business Award’ for the first time.
The award, was handed out by “Action Against Business Crime”, a national organisation, to acknowledge that the scheme meets a nationally recognised standard for business crime partnerships.
Reported shoplifting offences in Warrington town centre dropped by 43 per cent in April compared to the month before, according to Cheshire Police who also say the partnership has helped to reduce retail crime generally
Dave Barlow, business crime manager for Warrington town centre, said: “The aims of the Warrington Against Business Crime Partnership is to reduce retail crime, reduce anti-social behaviour and help provide a safe and secure environment for those who live, work and shop in Warrington.
“The Safer Business Award is a significant achievement for us. It is a result for all the hard work that we have jointly undertaken with Cheshire Police to ensure that persistent offenders who cause alarm and distress are identified and prevented from committing crime and anti-social behaviour in the first place.
“We have also had great success in arresting organised criminals who thought Warrington was an easy target. We share intelligence and information with retailers and business crime partnerships across the UK and the award recognises that we do this in full compliance with data protection law.
Acting inspector Neil Drum, of Warrington town centre neighbourhood policing unit, said: “This award is recognition of the excellent work that is being carried out in the town centre on a daily basis by Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and other key partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour and to reassure retailers and members of the public.
