A £3.5m investment to upgrade several bridge structures at Warrington Bank Quay station as part of the Great North rail project has been welcomed by Warrington South MP Andy Carter.

From the end of January until 24 April 2021, Network Rail will be undertaking work to infill a disused bridge span beneath the station, as well as replacing a railway bridge and footbridge.
The work will help to make the railway through Warrington more reliable for passengers and freight services. The railway bridge being replaced supports two railway lines through Warrington Bank Quay, including the tracks on platform 1 and the adjacent line used predominantly for freight trains.
Mr Carter said: “I’m always delighted to see funding being put to good use at Warrington Bank Quay. Doing the work while the rail network is quiet makes complete sense to minimise disruption. There are some urgent repairs required which I’ve been pushing for and the £3.5m will improve safety aspects as well as making journeys quicker and more reliable.
“I’ve been assured by Network Rail that disruption and noise will be kept to a minimum, with works finishing by late April. If residents have any issues, please contact the 24-hour helpline on 03457 11 41 41.
“To complete the work safely, in addition to working Monday-Friday during the day, Network Rail will be working overnight on Saturdays when trains aren’t running. Some noise is to be expected however, I assurance has been given by Network Rail that they will do all they can to keep this to a minimum where possible.”
To keep staff and the public safe, there will also be a full road closure in place at the front of the station from Thursday 1 to Tuesday 6 April. The map below highlights where the work will take place and where the compound will be located.
Network Rail has a 24-hour helpline if you have any issues: 03457 11 41 41. They are also working closely with Avanti West Coast and other train operators to make sure that passengers will be aware of the work and what their journey options will be.
