Family flee blaze flat

A FAMILY escaped from a smoke-filled flat at Warrington early today.
Fire crews were quickly on the scene and tackled the blaze at a first floor flat in Sharp Street, off Orford Lane.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the premises following reports that people could be trapped inside.
But in fact the occupants had left the premises before crews reached the scene.
The fire involved bedding and the cause is still under investigation. But smoke alarms in the property failed to operate.
After extinguishing the blaze with hosereels, firefighters carried out a safety survey of the property and fitted new smoke alarms.
Two fire engines were involved in the operation shortly after 6.20am.
