PLANNING chiefs at Warrington are to be asked to approve a development of 10 flats and four small retail units in town centre Bridge Street.

The scheme involves the Grade 2 Listed former JJB Sports building which is now standing vacant.
Ten one and two bedroomed flats would be created on the first, second and third floors while the retail units would occupy the ground floor and basement.
There would be parking for 10 pedal cycles.
Although the scheme, submitted by SPC Warrington Ltd, would involve alterations to the building’s interior, the exterior would remain largely unaltered.
The building, said to be in late Victorian style, has a number of distinctive features including three large, semi-circular features at first floor level, six pairs of elliptical headed windows on the second floor and a balustrade parapet on the top floor.
The site is within the Bridge Street conservation area and, according to Historic England, is an historic asset
Historic England also states that Bridge Street street requires investment to improve the overall environment and to encourage a range of uses within the area to attract all members of the community.
They also describe the conservation area as “high” in terms of vulnerability and “very bad” in terms of general condition
