Anger over new plan for church

2

ANGRY residents are fighting proposals to change the use of a Warrington church building to a nursing home.
More than 20 nearby residents – backed by borough councillor Mike Hannon – are opposing the plans put forward for Norris Street Methodist Church.
Similar proposals were thrown out by the borough council little more than a year ago and later rejected at appeal.
But the new proposals have been scaled down.
A three-storey extension has been reduced to two storeys and the number of bedrooms cut from 39 to 25.
Objectors say the scheme involve a loss of mature trees and green space, would add to parking and congestion problems in the area, cause overlooking and loss of privacy for neighbours and would be an obtrusive development.
Planning officers are recommending the scheme again be refused on the grounds of loss of a significant amount of green space.

  1. So this church is to become a care home and residents aren’t happy…. and the other day it was reported that a local factory is to become a church and resident’s aren’t happy !?!? A new church has just been built in Latchford……What is it with churches at the moment…..strange old world 🙂

  2. The new Catholic church in Latchford came about through the amalgamation of St. Augustines at Westy and Our Lady’s in latchford. Unfortunately, St. Mary’s needs new foundations that the church won’t/can’t fund, hence the new one at Lower Wash Lane.
