A LORRY driver was trapped in his crushed cab for more than an hour after a heavy goods vehicle plunged off a motorway slip road near Warrington.
The crash occurred last night (Tuesday) on the M6 northbound slip road to the M62 at Croft interchange.
Fire crews from Warrington and Birchwood attended the incident, assisted by a hazardous materials unit.
The lorry plunge off the slip road and down an embankment to finish up on its side. The driver was trapped behind the steering wheel.
Firefighters using cutting gear took an hour to release him and he was then taken by ambulance to Warrington Hospital, understood to be suffering from head injuries, a deep cut to his right arm and suspected shoulder injuries.
Fire Service medics, including the medical director, assisted in the rescue operation providing care to the injured man.
The lorry’s deisel tank split in the crash and 40-50 litres of fuel spilled on the road surface and surrounding area.
As a result, the road was closed for most of the night.
