M6 re-opens after six vehicle collision near Winwick

EMERGENCY services attended a six-vehicle collision earlier this morning which resulted in the M6 Southbound near Warrington being closed between junctions 22 and 21A near Winwick.

Four fire engines attended at around 7.20am, one from Lymm, one from Birchwood, one from Warrington and one from Wigan in Greater Manchester.
On arrival the crews discovered that the collision near to Junction 22 involved six vehicles.
No-one was trapped inside any of the vehicles. A section of the motorway was closed by Highways England.
Firefighters checked the vehicles involved in the collision and ensured that they were safe.
Firefighters were in attendance for more than 20 minutes.
All traffic was held until 8.30am when the road was reopened. Lengthy delays of six miles and more than one hour were reported and a lane one closure past the location on the exit slip at J22 southbound remained in place.
