DESPITE the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Warrington Male Voice Choir’s traditional and much enjoyed Christmas concert is going ahead – virtually on YouTube.
The concert will go live on the choir’s YouTube channel from 7.30pm on Saturday 19 December 2020.
Choir members never fail to be told by many followers that Christmas only starts for them when they attend the choir’s Christmas Voices Christmas Brass concert at the Parr Hall. However, the choir recognised that a live venue concert wasn’t going to be possible this year, that there couldn’t be a face-to-face audience and that the choir couldn’t be joined, as usual, by its great friends Leyland Band.
So, determined not to disappoint its supporters – and hopefully grab many more new ones – the choir have gone virtual again. A concert is being put together which the choir believe will attract an enthusiastic and appreciative YouTube audience but, with no brass band and reflecting the on-going mood of many people, the choir have changed the title appropriately to Christmas Voices Christmas Brassed-Off.
As well as a festive programme of music from the choir, there will be an opportunity for the audience to join in and sing-along to one of the most popular Christmas carols. The concert will also see the return, after some eight years, of accompanist Anthony Whittaker. Choir Patron Terry Waite CBE will also play a part and a message of support from Choir President and Mayor of Warrington Cllr Maureen Creaghan will also feature. It’s also hoped that the concert will be taken by Radio General to the patients of Warrington and Halton General Hospitals.
With this virtual Christmas Voices Christmas Brassed Off concert, as well as raising much-needed choir funds, the choir is aiming through music to wish everyone as merry a Christmas as possible – and hopefully a better 2021 than 2020!
