Garden team springs into action

A WARRINGTON agency that helps certain tenants, the elderly and disabled has spruced up its garden maintenance service in time for spring.
Warrington Home Information and Improvement Agency (WHiA) has appointed a dedicated team, including a full time contract landscaper.
Now clients who sign up to the gardening service will receive a visit from the contract landscaper on a fortnightly basis to mow the lawn, remove weeds, cut hedges and dispose of green rubbish.
The gardening maintenance service is available for residents over 60, people with a disability and Warrington Housing Association tenants. Of those using the service, 95 per cent said they would recommend it to a friend and 60 per cent said the service helped them retain their independence.
WHiA offers a range of services to improve the home environment for those who need it most in Warrington.
One client, an 83-year-old woman, said: “I couldn’t manage but now I can potter in the garden without feeling guilty because the heavy jobs have been taken care of. I know I can ring WHiA and get good advice, a friendly ear and confidence that I will get a job well done.”
A stroke victim from Great Sankey, said: “I feel so much better knowing that the jobs I can no longer do are being taken care of by a trusted contractor. The garden has become a place of pleasure once more.”
WhiA manager Geraldine Kiddle said: “We believe the home environment is crucial to our general health and well being and it is our aim to provide support and good advice to help those who need it to maintain and enjoy their home.”
The gardening maintenance service costs just £28 a month, with a contract landscaper visiting every two weeks between April and October, and once a month from November to March.
Provided by Warrington Housing Association, WHiA is going from strength to strength as more people understand and enlist its services.
