AT a special meeting of Stockton Heath Parish Council, the Freedom of the Parish was posthumously awarded to Mrs Celia Jordan, MBE.

Celia, a Parish Councillor for over 40 years and a former Mayor of Warrington had stepped down at the May elections. The meeting on Tuesday, September 10, to confer the honour had originally been arranged for June 2024, but sadly, Celia died on Tuesday 4 June.

However, her long service to the community could not go unmarked and members of Celia’s family were present to hear the tribute made by the Chair, Cllr. Laurence Murphy. Cllr. Peter Walker then gave an address outlining the pivotal role Celia had played in the parish, pursuing with tenacity many projects, such as the Purple Flag award and the redevelopment of Victoria Square.

Cllr. Walker said “Celia used her position as a councillor to achieve things and solve problems, both for individuals and the wider community. I valued her advice and guidance. It was a privilege to have known and worked with her. It is an honour to be asked to propose that Celia is granted the Freedom of the Parish of Stockton Heath. Nobody has deserved it more than Councillor Celia Jordan.”

The presentation of a scroll and a gift were then made to Celia’s family, with her son Tim Jordan, recently elected as a Stockton Heath Parish councillor, receiving these and adding his own tribute to his mother’s service. There followed a celebration tea.

Celia was also a founder member of the SDP and was the President of Warrington Liberal Democrats.
