PUPILS from Evelyn Street Primary Academy in Warrington went on an amazing journey of discovery to Brazil.

A group of 30 Year 5 and Year 6 children, including pupils from Kingsway Primary in Widnes, from the Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT) schools went on the eight-day trip to the city of Montes Claros.
The trip by the two Warrington Primary academy (WPAT) schools was made possible with the help of the Global Schools Alliance, an organisation which aims to build a worldwide network of schools and encourage children to become worldwide citizens with an understanding of communities outside their own.
The journey to Montes Claros, in Minas Gerais state, involved a 13-hour flight. The youngsters were based at the city’s Prisma School.
The Evelyn Street and Kingsway students took part in classes, learning about the geography and culture of Montes Claros. The children visited the local towns and enjoyed tours around museums, markets, churches and parks. They were able to experience the fascinating history of the diamond mining town Grao Mogul and even had the opportunity to search for diamonds.

A highlight was exploring the caves of Lapa Grande with their new Brazilian friends, and sharing a picnic of traditional Brazilian food with them.
Evelyn Street assistant headteacher and Year 5/6 teacher Louise George, who was one of the teachers accompanying the pupils, said: “It was a great adventure as some had never been on a plane before, never mind another continent. They enjoyed it so much that they asked if they could stay for a few more days.”
Kingsway Primary Year 6 teacher Stephanie Davis added: “It was an amazing and unforgettable experience for the pupils and teachers who went on the trip. Some genuine friendships were created, and the children learned so much about the culture, geography and history of the area. The schools will continue to stay in contact and build on the friendship.”
A trip to Peru is now in the planning, with Evelyn Street and pupils from Ditton Primary in Widnes set to visit the South American country’s capital Lima next June.

Kingsway Primary Academy and Evelyn Street Primary Academy are two of eight primary schools that make up Warrington Primary Academy Trust (WPAT), a community of more than 2,300 children aged 2 to 11. WPAT was formed in 2016 and quickly developed a national reputation for excellent standards. WPAT provides staff at all of its schools with support, expertise and professional development so that they can provide the very best education standards for their children.
