WHEN the sun shines you can almost guarantee to see a stunning sunset on the skyline at Fox Covert Cemetery up at Hillcliffe, Appleton.
Even on cloudy days if you are lucky the sun can make a brief appearance, creating a colourful orange fire-like glow across the skyline, taking in what remains of Fiddler’s Ferry.
It provides one of the best outlooks across Warrington, where you can also see the Parish Church spire the Halliwell Jones Stadium and many other landmarks.
It provides the perfect setting for the thousands of graves, as families visit to pay their respects and share memories of their lost loved ones.
For me it has become one of my favourite go-to places and fortunately is just a five-minute drive from home or a 30-minute walk if I feel more energetic.
With no two sunsets the same, I never tire of capturing the scenes on film and sharing them for others to enjoy. Having seen various sunsets around the world, the one offered at Hillcliffe takes some beating.
I suppose the only thing that surprises me is that there aren’t more people up there capturing the scenes.
You certainly don’t need to be an expert photographer, with the latest phones making it fairly straightforward, although you still need an eye for framing the scene.
If you arrive 10-15 minutes before the sun is due to set – you should have ample time to capture the perfect photograph or video clips.
For me, it is the perfect way to round off a busy day.
