Raven Inn community pub now in its second year

THE Raven Inn community pub in Glazebury is now in its second year – not counting the four-and-a-half years in which the local community fought to save the pub.

The team now involved in running the pub are pleased with the progress so far and are looking forward to building on its success.
Spokesperson Peter Sturman: “‘This year has gone so quickly. There have certainly been challenges – from a power outage in the kitchen one weekend very early on right up to the recent roadworks surrounding the pub and causing great confusion for both us and our patrons.
“But overall business has been good and we are indebted to our shareholders, along with all our patrons who have supported the Raven.
“It is fair to say we have all learned a lot over the last year. We have had fantastic advice and mentoring from people with proven experience of running community pubs.
“All the same, there are things specific to the Raven we have had to deal with and develop strategies for the future.

“I think, in the present climate, very few licensed premises can rest on their laurels. We always have to plan ahead and look for new ideas to keep things fresh and contemporary.
“We have some established popular events such as the quiz night and jam night. We will continue to engage various different good quality acts to entertain our customers.
“One area we are keen to expand is the facility the pub now offers on Mondays, for community based activities. The Raven has already hosted many charity events, raising thousands of pounds for the respective charities.
“We would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas for Mondays at the Raven. It is a real opportunity for some innovative diverse events.”
Peter added: “The main message from everyone involved with the Raven is thank you. Thank you for your support. Thank you for sticking with us when those unforeseen glitches have affected us.
“Thank you for your continued patronage up to now and in the future.”
