Planning meeting postponed due to technical issue

WARRINGTON Borough Council’s Development Management Committee (DMC) meeting scheduled for this evening, Thursday 19 September, has been adjourned until Thursday 3 October.

One of the controversial items on the agenda involves plans to build 550 apartments on land off Winwick Street in four 12 storey blocks.

The outline scheme, which also includes a 160-bed hotel and 3,000 sq metres of office and retail floor space was originally approved by the borough council’s development management committee in 2022.
It comes with an officer recommendation for approval – because of the adoption of the Warrington Local Plan last year.

But a decision will now be put off until October 3rd with the council isuing a statement saying: “Regrettably, a technical issue outside of the council’s direct control, but linked to the committee management system website that the council uses for hosting meeting papers, resulted in the agenda for this evening’s meeting disappearing from view online.

“It is proposed that all agenda items currently planned for discussion this evening will therefore be moved to a new meeting in a fortnight’s time.
“Although legally the meeting would have been able to go ahead this evening, we strongly believe in giving everyone a fair and timely opportunity to consider committee meeting papers, and have therefore decided that moving the meeting would be a proportionate and reasonable step to take.
“The DMC meeting this evening is therefore set to be opened and then adjourned to Thursday 3 October.”
