WARRINGTON Rylands progressed to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup after beating Newton Aycliffe 3 – 1 at the Hive Arena on Tuesday evening.

After defeating Bamber Bridge on penalties, and then producing a late equaliser against The Blues on Saturday in County Durham, Newton were believing things could go their way as they travelled down for the replay. When they scored the opening goal after just 17 minutes it appeared as though they were on their way. However, goals by Ntumba Massake, Sam Burns and Luke Porter soon changed all that.

Rylands began well hitting the post after 14 minutes but once again were caught out by a breakaway straight away when Cieran Jackson beat Luke Pilling for a surprise lead.

Soon after a great run by Ben Hardcastle produced a chance for ‘Tums’ but his effort only hit the crossbar and appeared to bounce down onto the line and back into play. As the in-form Newtonian keeper James Pollard lay on the ground the rebound dropped back to Massanka who neatly headed over the line for the equaliser.

Pollard was working well in his goal but half-way through the second-half he could not prevent Sam Burns from scoring after leaving defenders in his wake.

Just three minutes later Luke Porter secured the win with his first goal for Rylands.

Newton chased another goal but the home defence stood firm. Pilling, who had little to do throughout the match, was lucky not to see red though when he ran out of his area to prevent another breakaway and brought down the player.

Warrington Rylands will now host the next round of the FA Cup when Scarborough Athletic travel to Gorsey Lane on 28 September. Before that they will be facing mid-table Bamber Bridge on Saturday 21 September.
