MMR vaccine uptake increases to just over 90 percent in Warrington

0

THE proportion of children who have received the MMR vaccine in Warrington has increased slightly to just over 90 percent according to new data from NHS England.

The data published by NHS England shows the proportion of children in England who received both doses of their MMR (measles, mumps & rubella) vaccine by their fifth birthday.

In Warrington the figure 90.4% compared to 89.2% in 2022-23.

Last February NHS teams in the North West stepped up efforts to get more children protected with the MMR vaccine amid rising cases of measles in the region.

In March Warrington Borough Council’s public health team urged local people to check that they and their children have had the MMR vaccine that protects against measles with cases confirmed in the town.

Uptake of both doses of vaccine, which is usually given to children aged one and then a second vaccine at around three years and four months, was 85.2% in the North West – and lower than 80% in some areas – which like many parts of the country is significantly lower than the World Health Organisation target of 95% coverage with two doses of MMR vaccine by 5 years.
