WARRINGTON North MP Charlotte Nichols hopes the town’s first Igbo community festival will become an annual event.
The MP was joined by Warrington Borough Council’s Deputy Mayor Cllr. Mo Hussain as the maiden Iri Ji festival, celebrating the Igbo culture, took place at the town’s Parr Hall.
Commenting on the event Ms Nichols said: “What an amazing evening of celebration of Igbo culture to mark the Iri Ji festival with Igbo Community in Warrington (ICW).
“Ahead of the MELA this weekend, where we showcase and celebrate all of the diaspora communities that make up our town, it was a joy to take part in this maiden event that I look forward to hopefully becoming an annual get-together strengthening ties in the Igbo community in the North West and between our diverse communities here in Warrington.
“Hearing the President of ICW, Nze Justin Alionye, talk in his address about how he is proud to be a Warringtonian and proud to be Igbo was exactly why events like tonight’s are so special!”
