Tragic death at Padgate Station, no suspicious circumstances

EARLIER this afternoon, police confirmed the tragic death of a person at Padgate station, Warrington.

Emergency services were called to the railway line near Station Road South just before 3 p.m. today. Multiple units from British Transport Police and Cheshire Police responded, with several police vehicles seen at the location.

Paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service and firefighters from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance. Despite their efforts, it has been confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have stated that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson said, “Paramedics attended, but unfortunately, the person was declared deceased at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”

The incident caused disruption to train services, with cancellations and delays affecting routes between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road. Services from TransPennine Express, Northern, and East Midlands Railway have been impacted.

Northern Rail issued a statement, saying, “Due to an incident involving emergency services between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road, the line is blocked. Trains will be cancelled, delayed, or diverted via Newton-Le-Willows, and stations between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road will not be served. Services from Liverpool Lime Street to Manchester Oxford Road will operate only between Liverpool and Warrington Central.”

National Rail also updated passengers, stating, “Emergency services are managing an incident between Warrington Central and Manchester Oxford Road. To ensure safety, all lines are currently closed. This may result in cancellations, delays of up to 60 minutes, or revised services. Passengers may use their tickets on alternative operators’ services.”
