STAFF from across Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service are running a range of events across the county on Thursday to engage the community, deliver vital life-saving advice and contribute towards making Cheshire a safer place to live, work and travel.
Cheshire Safety Day will involve hundreds of firefighters, community safety staff and colleagues from corporate services talking to people about key fire and rescue risks.
More than 20 activities will be held in many locations across Warrington, Cheshire East, Cheshire West and Cheste and , Halton based around the following five safety themes:
• Business Safety – providing guidance to businesses in Chester, Crewe and Warrington to keep them safe from fire and comply with fire safety legislation.
• Home Safety – delivering safe and well visits to people who are most at risk of fire in the home across Cheshire
• Road Safety – events in six locations across the county, focused on giving safety advice to motorists and other road users to help people to stay safe on the road. This includes free tyre checks, drink and drug driving awareness, and advice on the other main causes of road traffic collisions.
• Water Safety – events in Chester, Ellesmere Port and Warrington will provide advice to help people stay safe in and around our waterways.
• CPR Awareness – awareness sessions on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) are being held in Audlem, Alsager, Malpas, Tarporley and Nantwich to help members of the public feel able to provide this life-saving help as a bystander if they come across somebody having a cardiac arrest.
Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive Alex Waller said: “Cheshire Safety Day is all about helping the Service to deliver on its vision of a Cheshire with no deaths, injuries or damage from fire and other emergencies. It’s also an opportunity for all our staff to come together, including frontline and those usually behind the scenes, so they can all work together out in the community and make Cheshire safer.
“Our staff will deliver a host of safety activities across Cheshire throughout the day, focusing on our key fire and rescue risks around business safety, home safety, road safety and water safety; as well as raising awareness of the benefits of being able to do bystander CPR at cardiac arrest emergencies.
“If you see our staff in your local area on the day, please get involved in the events and activities – the advice you receive could help to keep you safe or help others in their time of need.”
