Miles hits first Yellows goal in draw

WARRINGTON Town had to settle for a point in their fourth successive home game as they held 1-1 by Leamington.

Josh Miles’ early second half strike ensured the Yellows avoided a third straight defeat, although they will be disappointed to have only taken four points from their recent run at the Cal.Delivery Stadium.

It could have been worse had they not hit back from Callum Stewart’s first half strike, poking home a loose ball from a corner.

The Yellows woes were reflected by manager Mark Beesley’s decision not to use any substitutes in the game, with Ollie Southern named on the bench but not thought to be fit, and experienced trio Jay Harris, Peter Clarke and Josh Amis were all still missing.

Joe Rodwell-Grant and Gez Sithole played together for the first time this season, and both had their moments, the former driving an early shot across the ‘keeper.

He also curled a left-foot shot just wide of the uprights, before the visitors went in front on 27 minutes, Stewart bundling home as the Yellows failed to deal with a corner.

Their half-time worries were eased barely two minutes after the restart, Matty McDonald with a fine run through the middle to set up Miles to sweep home from inside the box.

Although it was an end to end game, there were few clear cut chances, the best of which fell to William Shorrock, smothered well by Dan Atherton.

The Yellows now have seven points from their first seven games, and head to unbeaten league leaders Scunthorpe on Saturday.
