LATCHFORD Albion fell to a late defeat at Halton Farnworth Hornets when three tries in the last 15 minutes saw the hosts take the spoils.

The result was harsh on Martyn Ellis’ side who played the second half with only one substitute and, on a warm afternoon, it proved vital as going in to the closing stages they were actually leading but ultimately ran out of steam. The hosts opened the scoring early with a converted try, before Albion opened their account for the day when Reece Hughes finished well in the corner.
Both sides then traded tries, Latchford’s came when hooker Charlie Groarke spotted a hole in the hosts defence to barge his way over.
At half-time the score was Halton 12 Latchford 8.

On 50 minutes Latchford took the lead for the first time in the game. Jack Phillips’ inside ball found Ben Harper running a great line to bust through the oncoming defence and round the full back to cross next to the posts, Phillips adding the conversion.
The game became a battle of attrition with defences on top but unfortunately for Albion the lack of interchanges saw players having to play for longer minutes than anticipated, and a very experienced Halton side took full advantage to register 16 unopposed points in the latter stages and take the victory 28-14
Latchford have a free weekend before a final game of the season when they travel to Haresfinch.
