WARRINGTON Rylands fell to a single, controversial goal by Prescot Cables in the Bank Holiday clash at Gorsey Lane.

Over 700 onlookers gathered around the pitch to watch two teams, both struggling at the bottom of the table, come head-to-head at The Hive Arena.

Rylands began with confidence following their victory two days ago at Morpeth. Playing attractive one-touch football they controlled a large percentage of the match but could not make the most of the many chances in front of goal.

Fifteen minutes into the second half as The Blues were pushing for the first goal of the match the travelling side made a long clearance upfield. It is believed that the recipient of this kick was offside but neither the referee nor the linesman were up with the ball so play continued. Poor defensive work by the home side and Prescot managed to net the ball for the only goal of the game.

Cables did all they could to wind down the clock but Warrington didn’t give up, creating more unconverted chances right up to the final whistle.

Rylands will host Bradford side Thackley next Saturday for the first qualifying round of the FA Cup.
After a disappointing start to the season in the league Rylands will be hoping for a good run in the money-spinning FA Cup.
