WARRINGTON Rylands took their first point of the season with a 0 – 0 draw at The Giant Axe stadium in Lancaster on a wet and windy night in Lancaster.

Once again the game was one of two halves as Lancaster took control of the first 45 minutes with Warrington struggling to keep possession of the ball.

Luke Pilling was busy in goal although not really threatened. The ball did go into his net, however, but as he was still holding it and had taken a knock from a Lancaster player the referee gave a free kick.

At the other end with just minutes left Rylands were awarded a corner; as though it were in a pinball machine, the ball bounced from player to player before Ntumba Massanka found the back of the net. The goal was not given as ‘Tums’ was deemed offside.

The Blues came out for the second half as though Mark Duffy had given them a really good talking to. Although the rain had ceased, the wind continued but the long balls that by-passed midfield in the first half were reduced. Rylands once again showed that they are capable of playing controlled football and for some time dominated the half. However The Dollies fought back and the game became end-to-end.

Duffy brought on fresh legs to replace those that had run themselves into the ground, which added more stimulus to the side. Hardcastle, Hough and Burton altered the dynamic of the squad and challenged the home team further. Burton made another of his runs, beating a few of the opposing players but his shot narrowly missed its target.

Taking a point from an unbeaten Lancaster City on a wet and windy Tuesday evening at The Giant Axe was hard work but Warrington Rylands will take the impetus to Morpeth Town on Saturday. Morpeth sit just one place above them in the league.
