WARRINGTON Rylands squandered a three-goal lead to lose 3-4 against a determined Ashton United at a rain-soaked Gorsey Lane.

It was certainly a game of two halves; The Blues appeared to put last Saturday’s defeat behind them as they took control of the first half playing superb one-touch football

A defensive error allowed Ntumba Massanka to take the ball around the keeper for the first goal. Jake Burton doubled the lead after beating a number of Ashton players before unleashing a wonder strike from distance. Matt Regan jumped highest at the far post to nod in a corner for the third

The Robins fought back immediately and won a penalty which Jason Gilchrist slotted past Luke Pilling for his first of the match

Gilchrist was at the forefront in the second half as Ashton gained more and more confidence as the game progressed and the striker scored three more goals to complete United’s comeback

Ryland’s skilful ball control of the first half seemed a distant past as they reverted to sending long balls down the pitch in search of an equalising goal

The Hive arena will host Whitby Town next Saturday 17th August when it is hoped that Warrington Rylands will earn their first win of the season after back-to-back defeats.
