A PRIESTLEY student has been selected ahead of hundreds of others for one of the UK’s most prestigious dance conservatoires.
Ava Moseley, who studied Dance A-Level and BTEC at Priestley, will join some of the world’s finest young dancers at London Contemporary Dance School in September.
“My approach to everything is that if I work hard and put in the effort I will achieve my goals and I think this proves it,” she said.
Ava auditioned for several conservatoires, but LCDS was her first and she was made to feel relaxed and welcome at the school.
It was never called an ‘audition’ and instead she attended three dance workshops, contemporary, hip hop and creative improv, as well as a 15-minute interview.
More than 300 people apply from all over the world so she will take her next steps alongside the cream of the crop of young dancers.
One of her Dance tutors at Priestley, Rachel Edgington, paid tribute to Ava’s efforts.
“Ava didn’t join Priestley as the finished product, but she has absolutely cherished every opportunity that has been given to her,” said Rachel.
“She has put her heart and soul into everything at college and her trajectory has been incredible.”
Studying both the A-Level and BTEC meant Ava had nine lessons of Dance a week at Priestley, covering in-depth theory as well as practical content.
Despite having so much lesson time she was often first in the studio practising her choreography before the college day began. She was also part of Priestley’s Oxygen Dance Company and passed the Rambert Grades Programme with a Distinction.
The former Bridgewater High School pupil also used her time at Priestley to support and inspire others through her role as a college Dance Ambassador.
“Dance is my way to express myself,” said Ava, who has been dancing since she was three. “But I would not be where I am without the support of Rachel, everyone else at Priestley and my family.”
