Young and old team-up for Children’s Art Week

For Children’s Art Week, children from Holyrood Nursery on Thelwall New Road in Grappenhall visited residents at Grappenhall Manor Care Centre to create a Wimbledon- themed masterpiece.

An annual event that takes place from July, Children’s Art Week celebrates creativity in children of all ages supporting and encouraging artistic development, making art more accessible and inspiring young people to take part in an art-related activity or workshop.
Five of the four and five-year-old pre-schoolers from Holyrood made the trip to spend the morning with eight residents at Grappenhall Manor, working together to create the artwork which has now been displayed in the care home’s reception for all to enjoy.
Working with tissue paper, glue, pipe cleaners and collage paper, young and old had free reign with the project and the result is a fabulous Wimbledon logo complete with the famous tennis club’s colour and two tennis racquets.

Wellbeing coordinator at Grappenhall Manor Leah Brooker commented: “Children’s Art Week provided the perfect opportunity for a get together with our younger friends at Holyrood.  The way both generations came out of their shells when they were working together was amazing to see, they all concentrated so hard and the result is lovely. Everyone helped each other and had lots of fun. Our residents haven’t stopped talking about it. One lady said the children were very smart and creative and she was surprised just how good the end result was!”
Emma Willis, nursery manager, added: “It’s really important to take every opportunity for young and old to spend time in each other’s company. Being together brings so many health and wellbeing benefits for all involved.  I know our children love their visits to Grappenhall Manor so Children’s Art Week was a great way to get everyone involved in a fun activity and creating something together.”
