THE second St Rocco’s Hospice Hike event has raised over £12,700 towards patient care after 87 courageous hikers met at Warrington Town Hall ready to walk pre-planned routes around the town.

Participants challenged themselves to walk a marathon, half marathon or 10 km to raise much-needed funds for patient care at St Rocco’s Hospice. Highlights of the routes included walking along Manchester Ship Canal, passing the picturesque Arley Hall and hiking through Victoria Park.

A total of 1,045 miles was covered by the 87 walkers with Nikki being the first marathon walker to cross the line in just 7 hours 20 minutes! Nikki said, ‘It was rather hot, but I just kept my head down and stayed as consistent as I could with pace – totally chuffed that I finished first at the marathon distance.’

A team of 6 people from Warrington Borough Council crossed the line together, completing 26.2 miles in 10 hours – an outstanding effort by all!

The total raised at the Hospice Hike is now up to £12,700. Charlotte, Senior Events Manager said, ‘St Rocco’s Hospice relies on the generosity of the Warrington community for most of its funding. The money raised from this event will go straight to caring for patients and their loved ones. Thank you to everyone that took part and our incredible volunteers who we couldn’t run these events without.’
An event as big and special as this was not possible without the help and support of lots of incredible people. This included a team of volunteers who work tirelessly to support St Rocco’s. A special thanks goes to: Adrian Cunliffe for hosting, ARC Training care on the move, first aiders Ken and Maria, Mike from Omni-Fit Studio for the warm up, photographer Brian Tuohey and Moore Camera Club, Warrington Borough Council, Sean from SM Sports Therapy, staff from RBS for help with event preparations, Grace at Barista Ze and Amee at Cooking with Arthane, and finally the Mayor for starting the event and setting off the walkers.
