THANKS to an army of volunteers the annual Padgate and Woolston Walking Day has been hailed a “raging success”, with plans already in the pipeline for next year’s event.

The event, which had been under threat of cancellation,  was blessed with glorious sunshine as hundreds of local schoolchildren took to the streets.

One of the volunteers Jim Hunter said: “Thanks to everyone who helped make Padgate and Woolston Walking Day a huge success.

For anyone who thought about volunteering but was unsure what it might entail let me assure you it was not an onerous task unless having an enjoyable afternoon in the sunshine watching hundreds of happy smiling children enjoying themselves traumatises you.
“It was a raging success and hopefully 2025 will see the return of those schools who chose not to participate this year. Huge thanks to Councillor Susan Emery who picked up the baton when the organising committee were in the process of cancelling. Future years will be organised by Poulton and Fearnhead Parish Council.”

Meanwhile, Cllr Emery, who helped co-ordinate ensuring Padgate & Woolston Walking Day took place, said: “It was a fabulous day and I really loved seeing all the kids getting excited!”
