WARRINGTON-based theatre company Soup Productions will be joining the colourful programme for Culture Warrington’s Warrington Pride Programme this year.
Producing a one-act play called ‘Chicken’ supported by a myriad of LGBTQ+ focus monologues.
‘Chicken’ features a cast of two, who explore the themes, discussions and social attitudes to LGBTQ+ life across two different generations. Daniel, who has lived through the decriminalisation of homosexuality and the HIV/AIDs epidemic, meets Craig, a young, vibrant, gay man living in a more open society. Through their professional relationship Craig is encouraged to think about the dangers of modern-day troll culture while Daniel tries to hold on to events of the past with resistance and gritted teeth.
The show will feature an exploration of love, culture and local LGBTQ+ life. The production will include an introduction from a series of monologues performed by local actors exploring identity, sexuality and allyship.
Soup is very honoured and excited to have received this opportunity, which was discussed and chosen by members of the Warrington LGBTQ+ community. We cannot wait to present this production and share the Pride experience with other fantastic projects commissioned as part of the festivities such as an audio walking tour, WMAG exhibitions, the all new Warrington Pride Flag and a Conversation Space to name but a few.

We consulted with LGBTQ+ people from across our town to highlight and understand what the best way of celebrating pride, and in the best way for Warrington was our key focus. Each commission we have made has been designed, selected and delivered by LGBTQ+ individuals and a direct response from the information we gathered and refined. We are really excited to be such a community-focused part of pride this year and are really grateful to the people and organisations who has enabled us to do this”.
‘Chicken’ will play at the Pyramid Arts Centre on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th June, starting from 7pm.
