Police seek witnesses after burglars force entry into church and steal cash from collection box

POLICE investigating a burglary in Stockton Heath, Warrington are appealing for witnesses after a quantity of cash was stolen from a church.

Between the evening of Thursday 30 May and the early morning of Friday 31 May, an unknown number of individuals unsuccessfully attempted to forcibly access St Thomas’ Church on London Road, Stockton Heath by breaking an exterior padlock that secured the front door.

Following this, the unknown individuals proceeded to enter the church through the breaking of a window. Once inside, around £20 in cash was stolen from a donations box.
Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and as part of their investigation, officers would like to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Alexander Reeves, of CID Proactive North, said: “As well as appealing for witnesses, we are also looking to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area in the evening of Thursday 30 May and the early hours of Friday 31.
“The same goes for anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage which they believe will be of assistance.
“While our enquiries continue, we’re also urging residents in the area to remain cautious and ensure that their properties and outbuildings are kept secure at all times.”
