Rooftop rescue as firefighters tackle house blaze

FOUR casualties were rescued by firefighters involved in a rooftop rescue following a blaze at a bedsit property on Wilderspool Causeway this morning.

At 06:34 crews from Warrington, Lymm and Stockton Heath were called to the property on Wilderspool Causeway and used hose reels to fight the fire and a ladder to gain access to a roof area.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to tackle the fire, which is now extinguished. Four casualties were cared for by a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Trauma Technician and paramedics. One person was rescued from a rooftop window.

Update 7.45 am – One fire engine remains at the scene and firefighters are putting equipment away ready to leave. Fire investigators are also at the scene.
