Temporary measures to discourage town centre traffic set to become permanent!

TEMPORARY measures to discourage traffic from Warrington town centre are set to become permanent after being deemed successful by highway planners.

The temporary measures on Winmarleigh Street, Barbauld Street and Sankey Street in the town centre were introduced as part of a package to prevent and discourage through traffic movements within the core of the town centre.

Warrington Borough Council says the routes on which these measures are located are ones that have historically been subject to significant through or rat-running movements to avoid congestion on the adjacent ‘A’ roads.
They say the restrictions have been successful in reducing the level of through movements to very low levels, creating an improved environment within the town centre for pedestrians and cyclists.

Now a traffic notice has been issued to make the temporary measures permanent. Any objections can be made to the council by December 7 via [email protected]

Notice is hereby given that the Council proposes to make an order under Sections 1, 2, 3, 4 & Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and of all other enabling powers. The effect of which will be as follows: –
