WITH a third round of bin strikes set to start next Wednesday, November 8, by UNITE, Warrington Borough Council is now calling on the trade union to immediately cancel its plans to strike following a national pay agreement.
Recent industrial action in Warrington by UNITE has always been on the basis of the national pay offer not being acceptable to its members.
The trade union GMB has recently conducted a national ballot. The outcome of this ballot was that GMB will not pursue strike action and it will accept this year’s pay award. UNISON has already confirmed it will not be taking strike action and has also agreed to the pay award.
Subsequently, earlier today, Wednesday 1 November, the three trade unions – UNITE, UNISON and GMB – met nationally to discuss the pay offer and the council has since received confirmation that it has been agreed.
With this in mind, the council is asking UNITE not to take further strike action, since agreement on this year’s national pay award – the basis of UNITE’s strike action – has been reached.
