WARRINGTON Hockey Club’s Women’s 1st team returned to winning ways with a 4-1 home victory against Wilmslow.

A well-rehearsed short corner saw Sarah Gregson sweep Warrington into an early lead before the
visitors hit back with an equaliser against the run of play. Warrington almost instantly retook the
lead, Louise Unsworth working the ball wide before Helen Fairhurst on debut jinked past a couple of
defenders before flicking the ball over the despairing goalkeeper.
The hosts extended their lead just before half-time with an expert deflection from Abi Hynes before
Sally McKay put the icing on the cake with another well-taken deflection from an Emma Thelwell
cross in the second half to seal a great win.
Warrington Women’s Development team fell to a 2-0 home defeat against local rivals Golborne.
Warrington fielded a young side with five juniors and provided a stern test for a more experienced
Golborne side. The hosts had to weather a bit of an early storm with Gloria Roden-Lui and Katherine
Parker excelling in defence and Tracy Jackson making some important saves in goal.
Golborne were fortunate to take a fluke lead in the second half following a bit of a melee at a short
corner before sneaking a second goal later in the half. Warrington pushed for a goal through great
attacking play from Daniella Sutton and Amy Molden but they were unable to grab a goal back before full time.

Warrington Men’s 1st team suffered their first defeat of the season with a 1-0 loss away at Knutsford.
In a game that lacked cohesion, the hosts took advantage of a loose ball, and while Warrington
momentarily paused a goal-bound shot made its way past goalkeeper and player of the match Tom
Lloyd to give Knutsford all three points.
Warrington attempted to rally and salvage a point but efforts from Richard Cook and James Molden
were unable to find the back of the net. The only saving grace for Warrington was that their
promotion rivals also dropped points in what is a very competitive league.
Knutsford did the double with their 2nd team securing a 3-0 win over Warrington Men’s 2nd team.
The game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests with Knutsford only leading by a goal until the
dying minutes when Warrington had pushed up looking for an equaliser. William Gilbert was the
stand-out performer for Warrington, volunteering to don the goalkeeper’s kit rather than play in his
usual position as a defender. Gilbert made some brilliant reflex saves to deny Knutsford and wasn’t at fault for any of their goals.
At the other end, Luke Skilander and Chris Ashworth came close to getting Warrington on the
scoresheet but ultimately it was Knutsford’s day, and they were happy to take
