Historic Red Lion inn wins permission for new toilet block

PLANS for a suite of toilets in an existing outbuilding at the historic Red Lion Inn at Stockton Heath have been approved by Warrington planning chiefs.

The Grade 2 Listed building In London Road is a landmark in the village centre but the outbuilding is at the rear, adjacent to the bowling green, and has been used as a bowls store and drinking area. Its external appearance will be unaltered by the development, Warrington Borough Council planners were told.
It lies within the Stockton Heath Conservation area.

Dating from around 1800, the pub was extended in the early 19th century. The proposal will increase the number of toilets at the hotel so that external areas can be better served.
The building has been altered previously and planners are satisfied that the alterations will not cause harm to any areas of historic or architectural significance.
