TO celebrate Libraries Week 2023, LiveWire libraries in Warrington are hosting a free Children’s Mini Green Litfest from October 2nd to October 8th.

The Litfest offers a wide range of green and eco-friendly themed activities across all Livewire branches. Children can engage in crafts, pixel art, story dice, and even create their own eco-adventures.

There will be a special visit from Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho at Warrington Library on Tuesday, 3rd October, from 2-3 pm. Joseph will be signing up for his very own LiveWire library card and sharing some of his beloved stories and poems with students from local primary schools.
Libraries have formed a ‘vital part’ of Coelho’s life, who is undertaking a Library Marathon project as the current Children’s Laureate – the most prestigious role in children’s books.
Joseph has said: “Libraries made me a writer and make communities thrive. They have been a vital part of my life: from living on estates where I had a library next door, to my first Saturday job, to working at the British Library whilst studying at UCL, to touring theatre shows designed to be performed in libraries. I’m immensely grateful to libraries and the services they provide.
“I have visited libraries in every library authority in the UK: from large Carnegie libraries to tiny libraries in converted one-bedroom flats, on busses and even bikes. The dedication and passion of librarians has been inspiring – not only offering book recommendations, but also safe havens for people to be warm, to feel less socially isolated, to learn new skills or simply to weigh their newborn babies. Libraries have always played a vital part of my life, and so it has been wonderful to see librarians use my visits as an opportunity to get new people to sign up. I hope that the Library Marathon has encouraged many new members into the library and reminded many existing members of all the wonderful work these essential spaces carry out.”
He has so far joined 204 libraries and by the end of National Libraries Week, the total will have reached a record 213 libraries.

Meanwhile, Warrington based Curtis Jobling, the creative mind behind the BAFTA-winning Bob the Builder and Raa Raa the Noisy Lion, will also be giving a talk at Warrington Library on Saturday, 9th October, from 1.30-2.30 pm. This session is aimed at children aged 7-12 and will be an inspiring treat for young imaginations.

LiveWire Strategic Libraries Manager, Rachel Ralston, said: “This Litfest is a wonderful way to ignite children’s imaginations while encouraging a love of reading and an awareness of environmental responsibility. We invite everyone to come along and be a part of what is sure to be a fun-filled experience.”
