A security guard seriously injured at the Creamfields music festival has sadly died.

Michael Smith, aged 47, who was also known as Bruno, was airlifted to hospital after sustaining serious head injuries while clearing the site on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, but sadly died 18 days later, his family confirmed on Friday.

A post shared by Michael’s brother Simon Smith to a Creamfields community group said: “As a family we regret to inform you that Michael AKA Bruno (Security Guard) passed away at 5 am this morning following a tragic set of unfortunate circumstances.
“We would like to thank everyone who has called, text, and supported us over the last 2 weeks, it is appreciated.”

Simon has also launched a gofund me page to support Michael’s family, with more than £2,000 already donated towards a target of £5,000 for his wife and child.

United Protection UK, who provided security for the event, posted a statement saying: “Michael Smith, known to us all as “Bruno”, was a vibrant presence that lit up every room he entered.
“His love of a good story only matched his infectious personality and love for boxing.
“Bruno’s spirit will forever inspire us to live life with the same passion and enthusiasm he embodied.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends and loved ones on this sad day. He was a showman till the end, and we will never meet a person like him again.’

A Cheshire Police spokesperson confirmed Mr Smith from Newcastle-under-Lyme was injured at the site on Monday 28 August after the festival had closed to the public.
He was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but sadly died on the morning of Friday 15 September.
Police, liaising with the local authority and Health and Safety executive, have established there appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
