HIGHWAY planners are hopeful that plans to close a busy road at Great Sankey for resurfacing works will be limited to two consecutive Sundays.

Although Warrington Borough Council has given notice of a three-week road closure on Lingley Green Avenue near United Utilities HQ, it is anticipated the works can be completed between 7:30 am and 2 pm on Sunday, September 17 and 24.

The council has given notice it intends to make an Order under Section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984. The effect of this will be to introduce a prohibition of driving as follows: Lingley Green Avenue from its junction with Lingley Mere (United Utilities) to the roundabout at Park Road; Park Road from Lingley Green Roundabout to its junction with Mayfair Close.

The Order will be effective from 17th September 2023 for 3 weeks, as and when signed on site, although it is anticipated the works will be carried out over 2 consecutive Sundays of 17th September and 24th September 2023, with the closure for Lingley Green Avenue being operational between 7:30am & 2pm. Access will be under the control of the relevant Contractor for the duration of the works. The alternative routes will be as follows: Lingley Green Avenue via Lingley Green Avenue, Whittle Avenue, A57 Warrington Road, Lingley Green Avenue and vice versa; Park Road via Park Road, Lingley Road, A57 Liverpool Road, Lingley Green Avenue and vice versa. The restrictions are required to facilitate resurfacing of the carriageway.
