MORE than a month after assurances were given that fly-tipping at a former factory site in Lymm earmarked for housing would be cleared imminently – little has changed according to local residents.
Residents hit out at the fly-tipping at the former Elastomer site bordering Millers Lane and Carlton Road, saying the situation has been getting worse over a period of three years.
After the issue was raised with Warrington Borough Council towards the end of July, the problem remains, with others now fly-tipping near the site.
One resident who contacted Warrington Worldwide said: “Not much has changed. Those black-wrapped items with the WBC stickers on are still there, outside the fences. New items arrived last week and all outside the fences are the body boards and a BBQ. It seems people see this as a fly-tipping place as they see the mess inside the fences.”
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We are aware of reports about the general condition of the private land in Lymm. We are investigating and are in contact with the landowner to ensure that the land is cleaned up and have served a formal notice requiring this.
“Officers are continuing to monitor the site, including carrying out checks on the types of the waste present, while the investigation is concluded.”
