A 16-year-old boy was arrested for alleged police assault after officers broke up a mass brawl involving around 15-20 youngsters at Culcheth, Warrington.

The incident is understood to have followed a house party in the village on Friday evening.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 10.30 pm on Friday, September 1, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Bent Lane, Culcheth.

“The caller reported a group of 15 to 20 youths were fighting in the street.

“Officers attended and dispersed the group. A 16-year-old local boy was also arrested at the scene on suspicion of assaulting an officer. He has since been released.”

One local resident commented: “It was a very nasty incident on Friday in our road and the young people reported a knife being drawn and I witnessed high levels of aggression – there was a lot of glass from broken bottles and litter left that had to be cleaned. House parties are always a risk and more so in modern times when social media can mean control can be soon lost through unwanted guests. Events need to be held on licensed and controlled premises as this could have ended very badly and was bad enough anyway!”
