A WOMAN has been fined after failing to co-operate with the council with an investigation into a flytipping incident in Warrington.

Claire Chamberlain, 37, of Gorsey Lane, Warrington, was fined £653, with a victim surcharge of £261 and legal costs of £500, a total of £1,414 after pleading guilty an an earlier hearing at the town’s magistrates’ court.
The court was told that after receiving reports of rubbish having been dumped to the rear of houses on Marsh House Lane, the council investigated the incident, with findings linking the waste to Chamberlain.

Despite requests to co-operate with the investigation, Chamberlain refused to assist the council, thereby committing an offence.
Announcing the fine, magistrates made clear they considered fly tipping was a serious issue and a blight on the community.
After the hearing, Cllr Hitesh Patel, the borough council’s cabinet member for environment, housing and public protection said: “We always investigate reports of fly tipping and will pursue offenders to ensure that they are accountable for their actions.
“In instances where individuals fail to engage with the council despite being implicated in an offence, we will use all the powers at our disposal to take the matter forward so we can tackle fly tipping and the problems it causes.
“Anybody with information relating to a fly tipping incident should report it to the council with as much information as possible so it can be thoroughly investigated and any action can be taken.”
