THE M56 near Warrington has now reopened following a vehicle fire which resulted in lengthy delays.
Three fire engines were called to a vehicle fire on the M56 between junctions 10 and 12 at Stretton this afternoon. Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to extinguish the fire.
They then dampened down the area.
A partial road closure was in place while the fire was dealt with. Police were also in attendance.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At around 3.10pm today (Wednesday, August 9), police were called to reports of a vehicle fire on the M56 westbound between junctions 10 and 11.
“Officers attended and found that a silver BMW 116D had caught on fire.
“Lane 1 and lane 2 are closed as a precaution while Cheshire Fire and Rescue work on the scene. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
The scene is now clear and all lanes have re-opened on the #M56 in #Cheshire westbound between J10 and J11 following a vehicle fire.
