A thief who distracted people before stealing their mobile phones in the Warrington area has been arrested and charged following a cross border police operation.

West Yorkshire Police arrested the male on behalf of Warrington Police in the Dewsbury area.

This was following a series of distraction mobile phone thefts in Warrington and Nantwich in late May ‘23. Each offence involved people being distracted by a male with a large card and an offer of cleaning work. As he distracted them, he stole their mobile phone.

The male was interviewed by Warrington Town Centre Beat Team officers today and has been charged and bailed to court in late August.

This investigation was helped along by officers from Lancashire and Cambridgeshire – a true cross border effort.

This sort of offence has been prevalent across the North West recently. Police are urging people to be careful with their phone and to report any suspicious activity via 101 or online via CLICK HERE.
