Local gangster who was once Warrington’s most wanted back at court over Rolex watch

A local gangster currently doing time behind bars for drugs and gun plots was brought back to court over a Rolex watch.

Leon Cullen – formerly Warrington’s most wanted man – was jailed for 22 and a half years in May 2021 after being arrested on an international arrest warrant in the United Emirates.

He and his twin brother Anthony ran a £300,000 month cocaine and firearms trafficking organised crime group before Cheshire police smashed their empire.

At a Proceeds of Crime hearing last year it was ruled that he had benefited by £350,000 and had realisable assets of £22,820 which comprised cash and a Rolex watch.
But a further hearing took place at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday as the watch sold at auction for £3,000 more than expected.

Frances Wilmott, prosecuting, asked for the available amount to be varied to £25,560 and the judge, Recorder Jon Close approved the application.
Cullen, 35, formerly of Honister Avenue in Orford, appeared by video link from HMP Frankland and said he agreed with the amendment but not before remarking, “absolutely pointless being here.”
He added, “Just sign it off today mate, it’s not a big deal. They’re keeping it anyway. Simple.”

His barrister Umar Shazhad told the judge, “He is keen for matters to be resolved. He does not take issue with the prosecution application and for the available amount to be amended.“
The money is already in the hands of the police but the judge ruled that he has to pay it within three months or face a further three months in prison.
