AN illegal fence blocking a Woodland Trust footpath at Appleton, Warrington, has now been removed following complaints by local residents.

Local residents were overjoyed to find that the illegal fence blocking the public path between Longwood Road and the Dingle has been removed. A further improvement was the trimming of the overgrown grass and nettles which had grown significantly during the time the path was closed.

One local resident said: “A massive thank you to the owner of the footpath Woodland Trust for making arrangements to remove the illegal fence so quickly and for trimming the grass.”

The land in question, while not a public right of way, has been used by local residents and dog walkers for more than 20 years.
At the time the fence was erected a Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “The land in question is not a public right of way and is the responsibility of the landowner, the Woodland Trust.
“We are working to secure an agreement with the Woodland Trust to change it to a public footpath.”
