Car clocked at 78 mph on village road with 30 mph speed limit

A police survey of motorists driving along a village road in Warrington, recorded one vehicle travelling at 78 mph in a 30 mph zone, with more than 60 per cent of drivers exceeding the speed limit.

The data was captured by local police who set up a SID camera on Stretton Road.

A total of 7567 vehicles were recorded passing the SID and the highest speed captured 78mph!
The average vehicle speed was a more acceptable 31 mph although 60.8% of vehicles captured in excess of the 30mph speed limit.

Police have also spent some time in Lower Stretton after the Parish Council asked for some speed enforcement on Northwich Road as residents were concerned about the speed motorist travel through the village. Two vehicles were captured in excess of the speed limit.

Meanwhile Warrington Borough Council have installed traffic monitoring equipment outside St Matthew’s school.
