A 17-year-old girl is to be questioned by police after armed officers and a helicopter were deployed to Radley Common last night, following reports of men with machetes chasing girls.

The incident sparked a large police presence in and around the Orford area last night.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: “At around 9.20pm on Wednesday 5 July, police were called to reports of a group men armed with machetes chasing a group of girls at Radley Park, Warrington.
“Local officers, supported by armed officers and the police helicopter, were deployed to the scene and conducted a search of the area.
Following enquiries it was established that it was a hoax; a 17-year-old girl has been identified as being connected the incident.
“The teenager is set to be questioned on suspicion of malicious calls and misuse of 999 systems.”

Chief Inspector Neil Drum, of Warrington Local Policing Unit (LPU) said: “Any hoax call is not acceptable and will not be tolerated in Cheshire.
“This is another example of a waste of time and resources for an incident that snatched critical services away from those who need them most.
“The time spent dealing with these wholly inappropriate calls impacts our ability to deal with genuine emergencies – it can be the difference between life and death.
“If you are caught wasting police time you could face a six month jail term.”
