TWO historic town houses in Warrington are set to become “trainer flats” for young people as a second development in the town by Bedspace.
Members of Warrington Borough Council’s development management committee have approved the application stating it will help ensure the Grade 2 Listed buildings remain in good condition.
The adjoining properties in Stanley Street, are believed to date from 1772 and are Grade 2 Listed buildings. But they have stood empty for some time – one of them for about 10 years – during which time they have deteriorated.
Casamount Developments Ltd plan to bring the two houses back into use as 10 residential units for occupation by young people aged 16-18 who have suffered traumatic childhoods. There would also be a teaching room and overnight accommodation for staff.
The existing office use of the ground floor of one of the houses would be retained.
The youngsters would benefit from 24/7 supervision and the properties would provide transitional accommodation for them as they left care and became independent around the age of 18.
Proposals envisage improving the exterior of the buildings and construction of a two-storey rear extension to replace an existing rear addition which would be demolished.
It will be a second development by Bedspace, working in partnership with Urban Building Projects, who last week officially opened their first project in the town.
