Wrought iron barriers plan for pub pavement cafe

A PROPOSAL to install new, wrought iron barriers at the pavement café/exterior drinking area at the popular Friar Penketh pub, off Friar’s Gate, Warrington has been put to the borough’s planning chiefs.
The ornate screens would separate the café from Barbauld Street and would demarcate the boundary of the café.
There would be no change of use as the café is already in use.
Applicants JD Wetherspoon say the barriers would be black, with ornate details to sympathise with the local streetscene. The visual impact would be minimal as the barriers would be low, allowing the building’s elevation to be retained.
It is also proposed to relocate a single street sign, which reads “Saturday only” indicating nearby parking places to enable pedestrians, especially wheelchair users, to use the maximum pavement width available rather than having to negotiate the posts for the parking sign and barriers.
Access to the pub will remain as at present.
The proposals are being considered by planning officers.
