MP calls on council to come clean over results from Westy LTN consultation

WARRINGTON South MP Andy Carter is calling on Warrington Borough Council to come clean over results from the Westy LTN consultation.

He says a final decision over the controversial Westy LTN Central6 scheme should be taken without delay following the Council’s consultation which ended in May.

Mr Carter is urging councillors to reach their final conclusions to allow local businesses in the Westy area to make the decisions they need to continue to operate in the affected area.

He said: “This scheme isn’t popular, we’ve seen consistent criticism from local residents, local businesses and local commuters – the only people who seem to have nothing to say are the local Labour councillors who’ve ignored all the calls for change.
“So many local businesses are waiting to hear the outcome of the final formal consultation before deciding what to do next. So many are telling me they need to take difficult decisions if the scheme is going to continue.
“Every survey undertaken shows the closure of Grange Avenue has simply moved traffic onto Knutsford Road and Kingsway, causing longer waits for road users. I’ve seen no evidence it’s increased other forms of travel. This is one u-turn that local residents will welcome but the Council shouldn’t delay any longer.”

Warrington Borough Council started a consultation in April 2023 saying it was a final opportunity to let officials know if residents wanted the scheme to stay, be removed, or perhaps changed further.
